Update: 16 March, 2019, 12:56

Controversial Queensland senator Fraser Anning has been caught on camera punching a minor in the face twice after the boy cracked an egg on the back of his head during an interview.

The tweet — posted by ABC reporter Henry Belot at 10.34pm last night — is rapidly gaining likes after an angry public recoiled from a series of insensitive anti-Islam tweets the senator posted yesterday in response to the Christchurch mosque massacre.

In the video, the minor can be seen filming  Anning from behind as he is interviewed before cracking the offending egg on the back of his head.

Anning recoils and turns to face the boy, before punching him in the face. Onlookers leap to restrain the angry senator, yet he manages to get a second punch in before he is pulled away, reports thewest.com.au.

Arms restrained a still furious  Anning kicks his legs at the boy until he is wrestled to a safe distance and the video cuts.

The tweet has accumulated 74.7K views so far and climbing, generating quite a response among the public with most in favour of the boy.

‘Not the hero we asked for, but the hero we deserve,’ @death_whistles tweeted, while another I believe the 2nd shirt was an administrative error,’ Andy tweeted, while another — @Retrovirgo said: ‘I hope Anning goes to prison for taking a swing at the egg king.’

A tweet by @iborgward shows the scene from behind.
