Madrasa teacher held in Chuadanga for ‘abusing boy sexually’

Chuadanga: Police on Sunday night arrested a madrasa teacher allegedly for abusing a nine-year old boy sexually at a Qawmi madrasa in Baganpara area of the district town on April 21.
The arrestee is Jahurul Islam, son of late Abdul Hamid Mollah, hailing from Chhatiyantola Rajapur village in the Jashore district, reports the UNB.
Abu Zihad Fakhrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, said Arbic teacher Jahurul Islam of Sharmina Haque Hafizia Qawmi Madrasa called the class-one student at his room on the night of Shab-e-Barat and abused the boy sexually. Later, he gave the boy Tk 10 to hide the incident.
When the incident came to light in the morning, the matter was informed to the madrasa governing body. However, they did not take any initiative in the last one week.
As the news spread, hundreds of local people surrounded the madrasa demanding punishment of the teacher.
On information, police arrested the teacher from the madrasa at night.
Additional superintendent of police Kanai Lal Sarker and Sadar upazila nirbahi officer Washimul Bari visited the spot and talked to students and locals.
Police said process of filing a case is underway.
