Jute mill workers block Jatrabari intersection
Dhaka: Jute mill workers blocked the Jatrabari intersection in the capital on Tuesday morning demanding payment of their dues and arrears.
The demonstrators took position on Jatrabari intersection from 8:00am and blocked the intersection, disrupting traffic and creating tailback, the uNB reported.
Police intervened and brought the situation under control around 10:00am, said Kazi Wazed, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station.
Meanwhile, a strike, being enforced by workers of nine jute mills in Khulna region, is underway demanding payment of dues.
Production at the jute mills has remained suspended.
The workers will also observe road blockade programme from 4:00pm to 7:00pm today, said Md Murad Hossain, convener of Jute Mill Workers League of Khulna-Jashore region.
