Class-I orphan girl ‘raped’

Gaibandha: A minor girl has reportedly been raped by her neighbour at Paschim Kuptala Madhyapara in Sadar upazila.
The victim, a Class-I student, is now undergoing treatment at Gaibandha Modern Hospital.
Khan Mohammad Shahriar, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said police arrested Ayub Khan, father of rape accused Shakil Mia, 19 from the village on Monday night after a case was filed over the incident, reports the UNB.
According to the case statement, the victim, an orphan, used to live with her paternal grandmother at the village after the demise of her father.
When she was eight-month-old, her mother was married off to another man, leaving the victim on the lap of her grandmother.
On Sunday evening, the girl went to Ayub’s house to bring torchlight when Shakil was alone there.
Taking the chance, Shakil raped the girl and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter, the case statement said.
Asked by the grandmother after she fell sick, the girl narrated the incident to her. Later, she was taken to Sadar Hospital.
Dr Tahera Akhter Moni, a junior consultant at the Gynaecology department of the Gaibandha Modern Hospital, said they primarily found the evidence of rape in medical test.
