‘Drug trader’ killed in Rajshahi ‘gunfight’
Rajshahi: A suspected drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of ‘drug traders’ in Bagha upazila early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Ziarul Islam Kalu, 39, son of Abdul Khalek of Pakuria village in the upazila, the UNB reported.
Iftekhayer Alam, additional superintendent of police, said being tipped off that two groups of ‘drug trader’ were exchanging gunfire over establishing supremacy, a team of police went to the spot around 1:00am.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals also opened fire on the police team.
Later, police rescued bullet-wounded Kalu and took him to Bagha Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Kalu was wanted in ten cases, he said.
Nine policemen including additional superintendent of Rajshahi Police (Sadar Circle) were also injured in the incident.
53 bottles of phensidyl, one pistol, and two bullets were recovered from the spot.
