Six most-popular smartphones in the world in Q1 2018

Wonder which are the highest-selling smartphones in the world this year? Research analytics company Strategy Analytics has announced its quarterly list of the most-selling smartphone models in the world. The list names six smartphones that sold best in the first three months of the year.

 

iPhone X

Dispelling all slowdown rumours, Apple iPhone X emerged as the highest-selling smartphone during the first three months of the year 2018. Apple’s most-expensive iPhone X also get the title for being the most profitable smartphone in the world. According to recent research from Counterpoint, iPhone X alone generated 35% of the total handset industry profits, reports gadgetsnow.com.

 

iPhone 8

At No. 2 in the most-selling smartphones list for the first three months of 2018 is Apple iPhone 8. The cheapest smartphone in Apple’s current lineup of flagship phones iPhone 8 is also giving good competition to iPhone X in the US and Europe’s top 5 markets. iPhone 8 also ranks at No. 2 in the list of ‘world’s most-profitable smartphones’.

Next up is the big screen variant of the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus. The handset was incidentally the third most profitable smartphone in the world world with a 15.2% profit share of the total smartphone industry.

 

iPhone 7

Even though it belongs to the 2016’s lineup from the Cupertino-based tech giant, Apple iPhone 7 as emerged as the fourth-most selling smartphone in the first quarter of 2018. This co-icides with its position as the world’s fourth-most profitable smartphone with 6.2% of the smartphone industry’s profits.

 

Redmi 5A

Breaking Apple’s streak is the Xiaomi Redmi 5A smartphone which secures the fifth position in the list of the highest-selling smartphone during the first three months of the year 2018. The Strategy Analytics report said, ‘Xiaomi has become wildly popular across India and China.’

 

Galaxy S9 Plus

The only handset from the smartphone market leader as per IDC, Samsung, is its big screen flagship device from the current year Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, which ranks sixth in the list of world’s top-selling smartphones globally. As per IDC, this handset, along with the Galaxy S9 led the way as to their growth.
