Facebook has released a standalone messaging service on the web. Just like the Facebook application, now users can access Facebook messages through this website without logging in on the social network. But unlike the Facebook application on phone, the normal website will still have an operational messaging service, reports India Today.

The new Messenger website will require the same Facebook password and can be accessed without visiting your Facebook profile. The F8 conference held in San Francisco was where the company provided an outlay of their future plans with the messaging service.

To use the new web-based platform one will only have to enter a simple Messenger.com address on their browser. As of now the website is not functioning as a messaging platform but it soon be updated for regular use.

Facebook is trying to isolate its messaging service from its core website in a move to strengthen its IM platform. The company has also invited developers to work with the application to integrate various other apps.

The Social networking giant also owns the most popular IM application WhatsApp but it claims that these developments cannot be made in it because of its availability on most basic of devices and the new features need more sophisticated hardware to operate. The company is working on a deeper level of integration between WhatsApp and Messenger to create a strong hold on messaging as a platform.
