UIU team to participate in robot building contest in Poland
Dhaka: A United International University, Bangladesh, team is going to take part in an international robot building contest going to be held at Jasionka in Poland from 9 to 12 September.
The UIU team is among the nine Bangladeshi teams timetabled to participate in the contest, European Rover Challenge (ERC) 2016, organised by the Mars Society. The contest is one of the important events of International Rover Challenge series take place every year since 2007.
Participating teams will have to design and build a robot or rover that will have the capabilities to set out an expedition on the planet Mars.
The UIU team comprises 17 students from its electrical and electronic engineering department and computer science and engineering department is required not only to manufacture a rover with free-movement capabilities, but also to submit literature surveys, proof of concept materials, complete budget report, progress reports and professional presentations to the ERC during different phases of the competition.
Mars Society organises the event to encourage young talents in the research of and expedition to Mars like planets and to build a network among the people having strong desire for the scientific operation.
UIU designed rover consists of modified rocker-bogie with six-wheel suspension system, robotic arms, GPS navigation and wireless communication system enabling it to perform different tasks.
