Dhaka: No Bangladesh citizen is affected by the fire in New York, said a Bangladesh diplomat on Friday.
‘So far, we have not heard about any Bangladeshi being affected by the fire in Bronx, New York,’ said Bangladesh Consul General in New York Shameem Ahsan.
He said they are trying to find out more information.
A good number of Bangladeshis live in Bronx area, Shameem said.
The deadliest residential fire to hit New York City in at least a quarter century swept through a Bronx apartment building Thursday on one of the coldest nights this winter, killing 12 people and leaving four more fighting for their lives, city officials said.
The dead included a child around a year old, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said during a briefing outside the building.
The blaze broke out at a five-story building, a block from the grounds of the Bronx Zoo, reports AP.
