Malaysia: With traditional songs of Boishakh and cultural dance performances, Bangladeshi students of Malaysia celebrated Pohela Boishakh. The program has been organized by the Bangladeshi Students Association Sarawak (BASAS) at University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in the State of Sarawak of Malaysia.

The program hall was amazingly decorated with many of the Bangladeshi traditional elements like Bangla alphabets, traditional drums, kites and colorful designs and motifs.

All the Bangladeshi students wore traditional costumes like panjabi and saree. The program hall became livelier as the foreign audiences joined with the local people.

A Bangladeshi student of UNIMAS demonstrated the significant aspects of Bangladesh and its culture through a brief presentation, followed by the documentary ‘Beautiful Bangladesh’, to introduce Bangladesh to the people of Sarawak.

The crowded audience was so startled by the beautiful performances, that it was a wide topic of discussion even after the conclusion of the program. This kind of program was something new for local people, as well as the foreign audiences.

Professor Mohammad Fadzil Abdul Rahman, Deputy Vice Chancellor UNIMAS inaugurated the program and the program was supervised by Md Sifatullah Tuhin, the president of Bangladeshi Students Association Sarawak (BASAS).

Professor Mohammad Fadzil Abdul Rahman, Deputy Vice Chancellor UNIMAS, said ‘I am astonished and amazed to witness the Bangladeshi cultural program and the program will be organized every year from now on.’

Other significant persons like Associate Prof Dr Abang Ehsan (Director, UNIMAS Global), Professor Dr Mohammad Shahidul Islam (Faculty of Engineering), Dr Mohammad Bodrul Monir, Eng Golam Gaus (Kuching Bangladeshi Community), Oliur Rahman Alo (Kuching Bangladeshi Community), Rimon Iqbal (General Secretary, BASAS), also Nuruzzaman Ravein, Fozlul Hasan, Nazmus Shakib and the Bangladeshi students from Sarawak, were present during the programme.
