West Bengal: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined a special convocation of Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol in Paschim Bardhaman district to receive Doctor of Literature (DLitt).

The university authorities will confer the honorary DLitt degree upon her at a special convocation, reports the UNB.

Sheikh Hasina is being honoured with the degree as recognition of her outstanding contributions towards building exploitation- and disparity-free society, the notions poet Nazrul preached in his literacy works, as well as her role in translating the poet's works into different languages and set up research centres in various universities for conducting further research on Nazrul's works.

Sheikh Hasina arrived in Kolkata on Friday on a two-day official visit to India at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
