In a most bizarre incident emerging from the Indian state of Jharkhand, a mentally challenged man was arrested for beheading a female teacher.

The accused has been identified as 26-year-old Hari Hembram, who lived alone near Khaprasai Primary School where the victim was an employee. What is even more disturbing is that after he beheaded the 30-year-old woman, Hembram ran with her severed head for over five kilometres, reports timesnownews.com.

The incident took place on Tuesday when students of the public school were being served their mid-day meals, reported The New Delhi Television. While confirming the same, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Seraikela, Avinash Kumar said that the accused barged into the school premises, dragged teacher Sukra Hesa towards his house without warning and beheaded her with a sword. To their surprise, police officials upon reaching the scene of the crime discovered that the mentally challenged man was wielding two swords and was surrounded by locals. He was also carrying the woman’s severed head which complicated the confrontation even further.

Owing to the weapons in his possession, no one in the crowd dared to go near Hembran. A police officer even said that they had to drop their plan to gun down the accused due to the large presence of civilians in the area. The mentally challenged man then started running towards a jungle with locals and the police at his heels. The mob even hurled stones at him despite which he ran for about five kilometres before he could be subdued by the police near Hesel village.

In fact, four police officials were injured in the process of trying to protect the accused from the mob which was baying for blood. After Hembran was found hiding behind a bush, he was rescued from the locals who thrashed him left, right and centre, he was taken to Sadar Hospital by the police. He has now been shifted to the MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur.
