Lok Sabha election Phase 2: 95 constituencies voting begin

India: Lok Sabha election 2019 phase 2: Polling for the second phase of the parliamentary election in 97 constituencies across 11 states and 1 union territory is being held on Thursday.

The voting will take place from from 7AM to 6PM where people will cast their ballot to seal the fate of around 1600 candidates. 

The polling will take place in states including Assam and Bihar - 5 seats, Chhattisgarh - 3 seats, Jammu and Kashmir - 2 seats, Karnataka - 14 seats, Maharashtra - 10 seats, Manipur - 1 seat, Odisha - 5 seats, Tamil Nadu - 38 seats, Uttar Pradesh - 8 seats, West Bengal - 3 seats and Puducherry (UT) - 1 seat, reports the dnaindia.com.

Some of the key leaders who are contesting in phase 2 of the Lok Sabha election 2019 are Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, National Conference chief and former J&K Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, BJP lawmaker Hema Malini, Congress leader Veerappa Moily, Rajya Sabha lawmaker and DMK leader Kanimozhi, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar.

Lok Sabha election 2019 is being held in 7 phases. Voting in the first phase has already taken place on April 11 where a total of 69.43% voter turn out was recorded. The election was held in 91 seats across 20 states. The remaining phases will vote on 2nd phase on April 18 (today), 3rd phase April 23, 4th phase April 29, 5th phase May 6, 6th phase on May 12 and 7th phase May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.

Out of 97 constituencies where election was scheduled to take place on April 18, the election commission has canceled voting in Tamil Nadu's Vellore constituency in wake of seizures of large amounts of unaccounted cash from the state and postponed election from April 18 to April 23 in East Tripura constituency on inputs received that the ‘law and order prevailing in the constituency is not conducive to the holding of a free and fair poll.
