India: Campaigning in West Bengal for the fifth time this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said he misunderstood Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to be a woman with simple values when she had in fact unleashed ‘anti-people’ policies on Bengal people.

The Prime Minister also said that 'speed-breaker didi' has lost her sleep after two rounds of polling in the state, reports the dnaindia.com.

‘Mamata wants the West Bengal model to be replicated in the entire country. No work can be done in Bengal without paying extortion money; no Durga Puja can be celebrated... Mamata brings in people from other countries to campaign for her candidates, which too is unprecedented. She has been filling her own coffers and is only worried about her vote bank. Let alone the entire country, this model should not exist in Bengal itself,’ said PM Modi. The prime minister was speaking at a BJP rally at Buniadpur in Dakshin Dinajpur district ahead of the third phase of polling on April 23.

PM Modi reiterated that 'speed-breaker didi' had been posing impediments to the development and welfare of Bengal, but would realise her folly once the results were out on May 23. ‘You had put your trust in Mamata, but she betrayed it. Not just you, I too had believed that Mamata was a simple lady. She had fought the Left Front and ousted them. If I can be misled, what about the common people?’ he asked.

Training his guns at both Mamata and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, Modi said the 'bua-bhatija' pair had shamed the culture of Bengal.

PM Modi also played to the crowd, raising slogans in Bengali. He asked the crowd to cheer 'Ghore ghore chowkidar' (a chowkidar in every house) after his every slogan, and went on to shout ten slogans in Bengali such as 'Durnitibaaz ra hushiyar' (corrupt beware), 'Polatok der ainer maar' (absconders will be brought to book, 'Deshdrohira pabey na paar' (anti-nationals will not escape) and 'Anuprobeshkari ke korbo seema paar' (infiltrators will be sent back).
