Dhaka: US President Barack Obama has said his country continues to stand by Bangladesh, Japan and the rest of the international community in their ‘steadfast resolve’ to fight terrorism.

Obama said this in his letter of condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the terrorist attack in Dhaka, according to the content of the letter received here from Japanese Foreign Ministry on Friday.

On behalf of the American people, Obama said, he sends his heartfelt and deepest condolences to the families and friends of the seven Japanese citizens who were tragically killed in the heinous terrorist attack in Dhaka on July 1-2.

‘I join you in condemning, in the strongest possible terms, this horrific attack that claimed so many innocent lives, including a US citizen, Bangladeshi civilians and police, and citizens of Italy and India,’ he wrote.

The US President hoped for the speedy recovery of the Japanese citizen wounded in the attack.

‘This attack is an outrage, all the more so because your citizens were in Dhaka building a better future for Bangladesh,’ Obama said.
