1 killed, 25 hurt in clash between villagers

Sirajganj: A man was killed and 25 others, including five policemen, injured in a clash between two groups of people from Kamalpur village in Enayetpur upazila and Ghorashal village in Shahazadpur upazila in Sirajganj on Sunday over a trivial matter.

The deceased is Ashraf Ali Pramanik, a resident of Ghorasal village.

Local people said a farmer of Ghorasal village locked in an altercation with a farmer of Kamalpur village in Enayetpur upazila on Saturday afternoon.

Following the argument, when Ashraf was returning home through Kamalpur village at noon, the villagers stabbed him, leaving him dead on the spot.

As the news spread around, people from Ghorasal village equipped with locally made weapons attacked the inhabitants of Kamalpur village which left 20 villagers injured.

They also vandalised 10 houses and looted the houses of the village.

Police personnel from Shahjadpur and Enayetpur police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Police also recovered the body sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital for autopsy.

The Shahjadpur police said five police personnel, including sub-inspector Abu Syed of Enayetpur police, were injured in this incident.

The injured were admitted to Shahjadpur Upazila Health Complex.

Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avoid further trouble.

A case was filed in this connection.
