President asks NHRC to gear up activities
Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid on Thursday asked the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to gear up its activities to make people aware about human rights and increase spot investigations.
He said this when an eight-member NHRC delegation, led by its Chairman Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, submitted its annual report-2014 to the President at Bangabhaban.
President Hamid urged the Commission to ensure transparency and accountability in its all activities and hoped that it will work independently not being dependent on others, President's press secretary Joynal Abedin told UNB.
Dr Mizanur Rahman apprised the President that the people of the country are now more aware about human rights than in the past, and the NHRC is praised at the international level.
He the NHRC is receiving response from various government agencies to its various queries, and sought the President’s help to have its own building and extend its activities up to divisional level.
The delegation also highlighted the necessity to bring changes in the Rules of Business and Selection Committee of the NHRC.
