Jessore: Police at Chaugacha in Jessore on Sunday evening arrested two Chhatra League activists and a Chhatra Dal activist on charges of raping a schoolgirl.

The victim, with critical injuries, is now undergoing treatment at Jessore Medical College Hospital.

The arrested are Chaugacha Municipality Chhatra League joint general secretary Parvez Sunny and activist Shimul, and Municipality Ward 7 Chhatra Dal president Uzzal.

Parvez Sunny’s father is Ward 8 councillor of Chaugacha municipality.

Ruling Awami League blessed students’ organisation Chhatra League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s associate organisation for students, Chhatra Dal, are basically two long-standing political rivals, who frequently fight each-other to hold political supremacy.

Chaugacha police sub-inspector Sharif Hossain said they were trying to catch few other suspects.

Preparations of filing a case is underway as the victim’s family is now busy at the hospital, added the police officer.

District assistant superintendent of police Bhaskar Saha had already visited the victim in the hospital.

SI Sharif Hossain said the girl was chatting with one of her friends at a school ground at Chaugacha market area on Sunday evening.

The suspected rapists went to the field and picked up the victims. They took them to a nearby drug peddler’s rented house at Dakbanglowpara.

They beat up the boy and snatched his mobile phone and later drove him away.

Parvez Sunny, Uzzal, Shimul, Alamin and several other raped the girl, who screamed loudly for help, said police quoting local people.

Neighbours called police who rushed to the spot and caught Parvez Sunny, Uzzal and Shimul red-handed. Others, however, managed to get away.

Police, primarily, took the girl to Chaugacha Upazila Health Complex, but later shifted her to Jessore Medical College Hospital at about 4:20pm as her condition deteriorated.

Hospital’s Emergency Ward doctor Rabiul Islam said the victim would undergo medical check-up on Monday.
