41 biranganas get recognition as freedom fighters
Dhaka: The government has published a list of 41 biranganas, who were persecuted by Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators, recognising them as freedom fighters for their contribution in the War of Independence of 1971.
The Liberation War Affairs Ministry published a gazette notification of 41 names of the biranganas on Monday.
The biranganas will be given due recognition and allowances as the freedom fighters.
Earlier on 13 October last year, the government decided to recognise biranganas as freedom fighters.
On 27 January 2014, a High Court bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Md Habibul Gani issued a rule seeking an answer from the government as to why biranganas would not get facilities similar to freedom fighters.
The bench also sought a response as to why a gazette would not be issued listing all the names of the biranganas.
