Cox’s Bazar: Some 103 Bangladeshi human smuggling victims, rescued by Myanmar authorities on 21 May and 29 May, were brought back home from Myanmar on Monday after a flag meeting along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.

The flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar’s Immigration and National Registration Department was held near Friendship Bridge border point at about 12:30pm, said Shyamal Kumar Nath, superintendent of Cox’s Bazar Police.

Earlier, a team of Border Guard Bangladesh went to the bordering area in the morning to bring the Bangladeshi nationals back.

Acting Commanding officer of Cox’s Bazar BGB battalion- 17 Major Imran Ullah Sarkar led the 12-member BGB team while You Chaw Naying, director of Myanmar’s Immigration and National Registration Department, the Myanmar team in the flag meeting.

All the victims will be taken to the Cultural Centre of Cox’s Bazar town.

They will be sent back to their respective villages after interrogation and completion of all the necessary formalities, said the SP.

Earlier, on five occasions, a total 626 verified Bangladesh nationals were safely repatriated from Myanmar after completing the necessary repatriation process.
