Dipan murder: Booksellers to observe strike on Monday
Dhaka: Booksellers will observe a half-day strike on Monday protesting the killing of Jagriti Prakashany proprietor Faisal Arefin Dipan.
Alamgir Shikdar, president of Bangladesh Pustak Prokasok & Bikreta Samiti (BAPUS), announced the programme after a meeting at his office on Sunday.
He said the booksellers will keep their shops closed till 2:00pm from morning.
But, Aziz Super Market at Shahbagh will remain closed for three days till Tuesday protesting the gruesome murder.
Nazmul Ahsan, president of Aziz Super Market Shop Owners’ Association, announced the decision from a protest rally held in front of the market at noon.
Meanwhile, a section of people under the banner of ‘Teachers-Students-Writers and Citizens’ formed a human chain from 11:00am to 12:00pm in front of Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University in protest against the attack on two publishers and two writers.
Faisal Arefin Dipan, 45, was stabbed to death by miscreants on the 2nd floor of Aziz Super Market on Saturday.
Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, publisher of ‘Shuddhwashawr Prokashony’, and two writers -- Sudeep Kumar Roy Barman alias Ranadipam Basu and Tareque Rahim -- were stabbed by some unidentified miscreants in the city’s Lalmatia area on the same day.
