‘I know I won’t get justice’

Dhaka: Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq, father of the killed publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan, on Sunday said that he did not file any case over the murder of his son as he knew that he will not get justice.
Talking to reporters, the former professor of Dhaka University’s Bangla department said, ‘Many people asked me to file a case over my son’s death but I know I won’t get justice. I don’t blame any political party for the murder. I can only say my son had been doing business for earning money and he had no intention to hurt anybody’s religious sentiment.’
Faisal Arefin Dipan, publisher of ‘Jagriti’ publication house, was laid to rest at Azimpur graveyard in the Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
He was buried at about 2:45pm after a namaz-e-janaza on the compound of Dhaka University Central Jam-e-Mosque at about 1:30pm.
Earlier, the slain publisher’s body was brought to the central mosque from the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
People from all walks of life, including intellectuals, writers, publishers and teachers, attended the namaz-e-janaza. Prime Minister's Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique were also present.
Meanwhile, DU Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury, who attended the namaz-e-janaza, said, ‘Once bloggers and writers were killed, but now publishers are being murdered …after a few days, readers might also be killed.’
‘We’re passing through a difficult time, and militants have proved they are strong enough. Dipan’s murder has also proved the State is least concerned over the killings and do not give due importance to contain those,’ he said.
Earlier, Dipan’s autopsy was conducted at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue when six stab wounds were found on his body.
Publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan, 45, was stabbed to death by miscreants on the 2nd floor of Aziz Super Market in the city’s Shahbagh area on Saturday.
