Death of JSC examinee in accident sparks road blockade

Munshiganj: Traffic movement on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway came to a halt following a road accident which left a Junior School Certificate (JSC) examinee dead in Kuchiamora area of Sirajdikhan upazila on Monday morning.

The deceased is 12-year-old Rifat Ahmed, son of Ripan Ahmed, resident of Teghurya village of the upazila and a JSC examinee of Rajnagar High Schhol.

Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, assistant police super of Sirajganj police, said the accident took place, as a Mawa-bound bus of Swadhin Paribahan hit a rickshaw on the highway in the area at about 9:00am while Rifat, riding on the rickshaw, was going to Kuchiyamora High School to appear for the JSC exam.

The collision left Rifat dead on the spot and the rickshaw puller critically injured.

The injured was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Outraged by the accident, locals blocked the highway and vandalised around 7 vehicles.

Police tried to bring the situation under control.
