Comilla: Five people, including three women, were killed and another injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Comilla-Noakhali regional highway at Fatehpur in Laksam upazila headquarters on Tuesday morning.

The deceased are Jasimuddin, 30, Rozina Islam, 22, wife of Sirajul Islam, Mohsena, 35, wife of Jahiruddin, and Nasreen Begum, 24, daughter of Ali Akkas­–all residents of Rajapur village in Monoharganj upazila–and pedestrian Abul Kalam, 35, son of Momtaz Uddin of Dhamicha village in Laksam upazila, reports UNB.

Laksam police officer-in-charge Monwar Hossain said the accident took place when a Noakhali-bound truck collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw at about 7:00am, leaving driver Jasimuddin, passenger Mohsena , and pedestrian Abul Kalam dead and three passengers of the three-wheeler injured on the spot.

Later, the injured were taken to Laksam Upazila Health Complex where Rozina and Nasreen succumbed to their injuries at about 8:30am.
