Nearly 30 lakh workers went abroad since 2009
Some 24,51,093 Bangladeshi migrants went to different countries across the globe during 2009-13, roughly the first term of the present government, while the number was 4,25,547 in 2014.
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said this on Tuesday while responding to a tabled starred question from Monowara Begum (Women Seat-17) in the Parliament.
The Minister also said that this manpower sent back a sum of USD 76.82 billion in between 2009-2014.
He said that Bangladesh so far sent over 91 lakh workers to 160 countries.
Comparing the scenario of the present government and 4-party alliance government, the Minister said that during the five years of the 4-party alliance the number of outgoing Bangladeshi people was 13,00,537, while the amount of remittance was USD 18.36 billion.
He also said that under the supervision of the government some 7000 Bangladeshis went to Malaysia, 11,677 to South Korea, 825 to Hong Kong and 329 to Jordan.
