UNDP, SIDA sign deal to work on Human Rights in Bangladesh
Dhaka: Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed an agreement to undertake a new human rights programme in Bangladesh.
The new five-year programme will focus on improving the human rights of Bangladesh’s most vulnerable people.
UNDP Country Director Pauline Tamesis signed the agreement on behalf of the UN body on Thursday, said a press release on Friday.
The agreement builds on UNDP and SIDA’s close cooperation on advancing human rights in Bangladesh, following the achievements of the Bangladesh National Human Rights Commission Capacity Development Project, it said.
The programme will continue to strengthen the capacity of the Bangladesh National Human Rights Commission, particularly in advocating for better protection and promotion of human rights.
The programme also seeks to support civil society in its important role to raise awareness on human rights in Bangladesh and improve cooperation among relevant national partners.
