Misinterpretation of Quran a threat to Islam: IGP
Dhaka: Deliberate misinterpretation of the Quran by militant groups to beguile the young generation into joining them is jeopardising Islam itself, says the police chief.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque thinks that such attempts are threatening to the security of Bangladesh too.
IGP’s remark came at a view exchange meeting with the Islamic scholars of the country on Saturday at the police headquarters in Dhaka. He was discussing the role of Islam in fighting militancy and terrorism in Bangladesh.
‘The true philosophy of Islam should be preached,’ said IGP Shahidul adding that people need to be aware of such distortions of facts of Islam and the Quran in order to remove militancy from its root.
He also requested the scholars and religious leaders to deliver anti-militant speeches during the sermons of Jummah and other religious gatherings.
