Bangladesh blocks Twitter, Skype and Imo
Dhaka: Three days into lifting ban on social networking site Facebook, the government has blocked three more online communication services—Twitter, Skype and Imo—for security reasons, reports United News of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (BTRC) sent letters to mobile phone operators and International Internet Gateway (IIG) operators of the country on Sunday evening directing them to halt the services immediately.
A Grameenphone official said the BTRC directed them to keep the operation of the three services halted until further notice for security reasons.
The restriction on Twitter, Skype and Imo came three days after the ban on the social networking site Facebook was lifted.
The government lifted the Facebook ban on Thursday, 22 days after it had blocked the site temporarily.
Earlier, on 18 November, the BTRC suspended the operation of social networking platform Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Viber for security reasons.
