8 of a family killed in Sirajganj road crash
Sirajganj: Eight members of a family were killed when a wagon collided head-on with a utility vehicle at Garadaha of Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj on Tuesday morning.
Around 13 people were also injured during the accident. The injured were admitted to Shahjadpur and Ullapara Health Complexes.
The deceased are Anjana, Afuza Begum, Moqbul Hossain, Sobhan Mia, Firoza Khatun, Borna Khatun, Jalal Uddin, and Renu Khatun, all are residents of the village of Boro Moharajpur in the upazila.
The Shahjadpur police said the oil-laden wagon was heading toward Baghabari port from North Bengal while the Ullapara-bound utility vehicle was coming from Shahjadpur. The wagon hit the utility vehicle as its tire burst and wagon-driver lost his control over the steering wheel near Garadaha. The collision left five dead on the spot and 16 injured.
Police and fire fighters recovered the injured and sent them to hospital. Later, 3 other passengers were dead after taking to Shahjadpur Health Complex.
The upazila executive officer Shamim Ahmed said an oil-laden wagon hit a utility vehicle coming from the opposite direction at about 8:15am.
Rejaul, husband of victim Firoza Khatun, said a total of 22 members of their family were going to Ullahpara Rail Station as they were travelling to Dhaka for joining a family event.
