Sylhet: Noted author Professor Muhammad Zafar Iqbal has demanded that Bangladesh should cut off all ties with Pakistan.

He came up with the call while addressing a discussion on the sidelines of a 3-day photo exhibition, titled ‘Liberation War on Newspapers’, on the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus on Tuesday, according to a UNB report.

Zafar Iqbal said the country has two challenges ahead - the first one is to break off all ties with Pakistan, and the second one is to bring all the 195 war criminals who were officers of the Pakistan Army in 1971 under trial.

Pointing to Pakistan’s denial of links with wartime atrocities it had committed during the Liberation War of 1971, Dr Iqbal termed them ‘blatant liars’.

‘It is better to sever all ties with a liar,’ he said.

Zafar Iqbal further observed that heinous attempts have been made to taint the history of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

He urged the new generation to remain alert to such attempts and always be informed about the historical facts.

The photo exhibition started on Monday and will continue till 8pm on December 16.
