IS does not exist in Bangladesh: IGP

Khulna: Inspector general of police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque on Tuesday said militant organisation Islamic State (IS) does not exist in Bangladesh.
The IGP, after addressing a meeting with Range officials at DIG range office in Khulna, told journalists, IS does not have any network in Bangladesh. Police is conducting drive to eradicate militancy from Bangladesh.
Police has already discovered the militant activities held in Bangladesh and identified the people who were involved with the deeds, said Shahidul Haque.
He also said police has already taken all necessary actions to prevent violence during and after upcoming municipal elections.
The police chief requested the municipal mayor candidates for not bringing out processions immediately after their victory and asked the candidates to inform police before organising victory procession.
Khulna Metropolitan Police commissioner Nibash Chandra Majhi, Khulna Range deputy inspector general (DIG) SM Moniruzzaman, Khulna police superintendent Habibur Rahman, Khulna Division Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 6 commanding officer and additional DIG Rafiqul Haque.
Shahidul Haque inaugurated Khalishpur Police Station building of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and visited the new building.
