Sirajganj: A union council chairman was killed as a bus crashed into his motorbike at Bohuti Chara in Sirajganj on Saturday.

The deceased was SM Amirul Islam Groho, 59, chairman of Naogaon Union Parishad in Tarash upazila.

Sirajganj Police Station Officer-in-charge Hela Uddin said a speeding bus of 'Suborna Enterprise' hit his motorbike from the opposite direction on Sirajganj-Nakla regional highway in the area at about 11:00am, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued Amirul and took him to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The accident took place when Amirul, also vice-president of the union unit BNP, was going to the district town to attend a workshop, the OC added.

A case was filed, the OC added.
