Fire guts garment wastage warehouse, workers’ colony
Dhaka: Fire gutted two garment scrap fabrics warehouses and 12 rooms of workers’ colony in the Shimulitali area of Ashulia on Sunday night.
Fire service officials said the fire originated from electrical short circuit at about 10:30pm was doused after one hour.
Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) fire service station officer Abdul Hamid quoting witnesses said the fire broke out in the garment wastage storehouse owned by Shimultali’s Sentu Mia and engulfed the workers’ colony owned by Delwar Hazi.
The fire service official said it took time to bring the blaze under control because of water insufficiency.
DEPZ fire service, fire service units of Dhamrai, and Savar went to the spot and brought the fire under control at about 11:30pm, said fire fighters.
The station officer said reason behind the fire and amount of damage will be known after an investigation.
