Child dies after falling into cooking pan used for mourning day’s feast

Tangail: A 4-year-old child was killed after falling into a large cooking pot which was used to cook khichuri for mass feeding on the occasion of National Mourning Day on Tuesday at Ghatail in Tangail.
The child and his elder brother fell into the cooking pan on Tuesday afternoon. Later, the child died undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital in the evening, while his brother was critically injured.
The deceased is Mainul, son of Hasmat Ali, a resident of the village of Jugihati under Anehla union of Ghatail upazila. The injured is Nazmul, around 7 years old.
The Anehla union council chairman and union’s Awami League President Talukder Mohmmad Shahjahan said a mass feast was organised by union’s ward 7 Awami League on the occasion of mourning day. Mainul was watching the preparation of the feast on climbing over his elder brother Nazmul shoulder. However, Mainul lost his balance and slipped into a large cooking pot used to cook khichuri along with Nazmul. Both of them were critically burnt.
Local people took recovered them and took them to Bhuiyanpur Upazila Health Complex after giving them primary treatment. Later, they were shifted to Tangail General Hospital, where Mainul died in the evening.
The Ghatail police inspector Mosharraf Hossain said police went the spot after being informed. Local people said the child and his brother accidentally fell into the cooking pot of khichuri.
