Chittagong: Five people were killed as a bus run over a cng-run auto rickshaw near Shah Amanat Bridge toll plaza at Karnaphuli in Chittagong in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased, Mohammad Sohel, his wife Bilkis, their two children, Sharmin, 5 years old, and Sabbir, around 3 years old, and the auto-rick driver, Suruj Mia. The family was returning home at Karnaphuli after attending a wedding ceremony.

The Karnaphuli police Officer-in-charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said Sohel along with his family was returning home after attending a wedding ceremony at a club in Chittagong city. A speedy bus hit the CNG-run auto rickshaw carrying Sohel and his family near the toll plaza of Shah Amanat Bridge at about 12:00am. Sohel and his family died on the spot, while the driver left critically injured. Later, local people took him to hospital, where he died. The bodies were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue.

The OC said police seized the bus but the driver fled from the spot immediately after the accident.
