Jessore: The death of a schoolboy in a road accident on Chowgachha-Jhikargaccha road in Chandpur area of Jhikargachha upazila in Jessore sparked violent protest by villagers on Friday afternoon.

The deceased is Abdul Mannan, 14, son of Ahmmad Ali, a resident of Pitomborpur village and a class IX student of Chowgachha Shahadat Pilot High Schhol.

Chowgachha police officer-in-charge Ilias Hossain said the accident took place as a bus hit motorcyclist Mannan in the area in the afternoon, leaving him dead on the spot.

Angered at the accident, his classmates and locals to the streets and staged angry demonstration.

They blocked roads and vandalised several vehicles.

They also caught the driver of the bus and gave him a good thrashing.

On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the driver.

The injured driver was admitted at Chowgachha Upazila Health Complex.
