Nine killed in Tangail road crashes

Tangail: At least nine people were killed and two others injured in two road accidents at Basail and Madhupur upazilas in Tangail on Thursday.

In Basail, a Dhaka-bound microbus collided head-on with a truck at Basail Link road intersection at about 3:00pm, leaving its seven passengers dead and two others injured.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

Elenga Police Station Officer-in-charge Jahangir Alam said the accident left four microbus passengers dead on the spot and five others injured.

One of the injured died on the way to and two others succumbed to their injuries at Tangail General Hospital.

In Madhupur, two motorcyclists were killed as their bike crashed into a roadside tree in Telki area in the afternoon.

The deceased were Sohagh, 28, and Himel, 22, hailing from Sadar upazila.

Madhupur Police Station OC Safiqul Islam said the accident took place when a group of friends on 10 motorcycles was returning from Netrakona to Sadar upazila, leaving one dead on the spot and one critically injured.

The injured died on the way to hospital.
