3 killed as running truck crashes into parked truck

Nilphamari:  Three people were killed on the spot as a truck crashed into another truck, which was parked beside Rangpur-Dinajpur by-pass Highway at Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased are, driver of the parked truck, Dulal Hossain, in his forties, his assistant, Atiqul Islam, in his twenties, and the driver’s assistant of the running truck, Babu, around 28 years. Dulal and Atiqul were resident of Dimla in Nilphamari, while Babu was from Sadar upazila in Gaibandha.

Local people and police said driver and assistant of a stone-laden truck parked the vehicle near Bypass Highway as it became out of order on Sunday night. Another, stone-laden running truck hit the parked truck in the Dholaganj area at about 1:15am on Monday and both of the truck plunged into roadside ditch, which left three people dead on the spot.

Being informed, Syedpur police and Fire Service Officials went to the spot and recovered the bodies. Later, the bodies were taken to the police station.

The Syedpur police Officer-in-charge (OC) Amirul Islam said the deceased’s families have been informed about the accident.
