Fire breaks out as gas-line ruptures in quake
Savar: Gas-line ruptured and fire broke out the road during a strong earthquake felt across the country early on Monday.
Vehicular movement was snapped temporarily on Nabinagar-Kaliakaur Road as fire engulfed on the Bipile-Abdullahpur, and Nabinagar-Kaliakaur Highways at about 5:07am.
Fire service officials said the fire originated as an underground gas pipeline cracked in front of Bismillah Azmeri Plaza during the earthquake of 6.7 magnitudes.
Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) fire fighters went to the spot and brought the fire under control.
DEPZ fire station senior station official Hamidur Rahman said the fire doused after 35 minutes.
A strong earthquake was felt in several places in the country including Dhaka city at about 5:05am on Monday.
The epicentre of the temblor was 29km of Imphal, in India where its magnitude was 6.7 on the Richter scale, the United States Geological Survey said.
