3 RHD contractors lose licenses for ‘assaulting engineer’
Sylhet: Licenses of three contractors of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) have been cancelled on charge of assaulting an engineer of the department, reports UNB.
Chief Engineer of RHD Ibne Alam Hasan ordered to cancel the licenses of the three contractors on Thursday, said Manirul Islam, executive engineer of Sylhet division of RHD.
The contractors are Akbar Hossain, Mozammel Hossain Nantu and Abdur Rahim.
Manirul Islam said the ministry also cancelled all the pending works of the three contractors following the incident.
On Wednesday, a group of people, including some contractors, swooped on Abul Barakat Md Khurshid Alam, sub-divisional engineer, and his peon Ershad and assaulted them as the engineer prevented them from using low standard bricks in work of a road.
Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said Abul Barakat Md Khurshid Alam filed a case in connection with the incident on Wednesday night.
Later police arrested one Shahadat, a relative of contractor Nantu, for his alleged involvement in the incident, added the OC.
However, police are trying to arrest the other accused, he said.
