Comilla: Around 15 kilometers of Comilla-Sylhet highway from Gakulnagar of Muradnagar to Safura of Debidwar have been severely damaged due to numerous small and large holes caused recent downpour, much to the suffering of commuters.

Several small and large cracks have also developed in Maynamati Saheber Bazar, Kangshanagar Bazar, Jafarganj Bazar, Viralla, Debidwar Sadar areas of the highway.

Passengers and drivers say they travel on the road every day amid risk of accident.

Besides, a long tailback is a common scenario on the road due to the potholes, said the sufferers.

‘We face trouble to ply vehicles on such a bad road. We cannot earn enough we cannot drive vehicles properly. Even we become exhausted only with a one-way trip on the road. And for this, we are now in great trouble,’ said a driver while sharing his experience with this correspondent.

Contacted, Executive Engineer of Comilla Roads and Highways Department, Muhammad Saif Uddin said that many potholes have developed over three to four kilometers of the road due to the recent heavy rains.

‘Once the weather improves, we will start repairing the road by floating a tender,’ he said.

The commuters and drivers are now counting days to see an end to their troubles and make a hassle-free journey on the road.
