DU students’ rally against metro rail route Jan 20
Dhaka: A section of Dhaka University students on Thursday announced to hold a rally on January 20 in protest against the proposed metro rail route over the campus.
The programme was announced from a press briefing, titled ‘Change the metro rail route, save the campus’, organised by some general students at Mohdur Canteen.
Addressing the briefing, Taisha Tashrin, a student of Biochemistry Department and coordinator of the protest programme, said they are not against the development of the nation, but the metro rail over the DU campus will create various problems, including hampering the education atmosphere.
Besides, operation of the metro rail can cause errors in the highly-sensitive researches that are conducted in the laboratories, including those in the Genetic Engineering Department, Microbiology Department, and Centre for Advanced Researches in Science, located near the proposed route.
Some university teachers are also expected to join the rally, the organisers said.
Fine Arts Faculty students will paint the road from Shahabagh to TSC on the day to protest the proposed metro rail route, they added.
