4 killed in road accidents

Four people were killed in two separate road accidents at Begumganj upazila in Noakhali and Ashuganj upazila in Brahmanbaria on Sunday morning, reported local news agencies.

In Noakhali, two people were killed and three others were injured in a road accident in Banglabazar area under Begumganj upazila on Sunday morning.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The Chandraganj Highway police said the accident occurred when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head on with a microbus at about 7:30am, leaving one dead on the spot and four others injured.

The injured were taken to Noakhali Medical College Hospital where one of them died.

In Brahmanbaria, a man and his minor son were killed in a road accident on the Brahmanbaria-Comilla Highway in Suhilpur area of Ashuganj upazila on Sunday morning.

The deceased are Rony, and his 7-year-old son Imran Khan.

Police said the accident took place in the area at about 9:15am as a truck hit the motorcycle Rony and his son were riding, leaving them dead on the spot.

Later, police recovered the bodies.

A total of 8,642 people died in road accidents in 2015, says a report published by Bangladesh Jatri Kollyan Samity [passengers’ welfare association] (BJKS).
