Road crashes kill 7

Dhaka: At least 7 people have been killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in Comilla, Naogaon, Natore and Rajshahi districts.

In Comilla, two people were killed as a Dhaka-bound furniture-laden truck plunged into a ditch by Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Kutumbapur in Chandina upazila on Sunday evening as its driver lost control over the steering.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Iliotganj Highway Police Camp in-charge Jibon Hazari said the accident left the duo dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital for autopsy, he said.

 A Naogaon-bound bus of 'Tisha Paribahan' plunged into a roadside ditch at Panchamitala on Naogaon-Rajshahi Highway in Manda upazila of Naogaon while giving side to a bus around 8:30am, killing two people, including a bank employee, dead and 10 others injured.

On information, police and firefighters appeared on the spot, rescued the injured and sent them to hospital, said officer-in-charge of Manda Police Station M Anisur Rahman.

The bodies of the deceased -- Abdur Rahim, 45, hailing from Chapainawabganj district and an employee of Pubali Bank Limited, and bus helper Ismail Hossain, 48 -- were sent to morgue for autopsy.

In Natore, a child was killed and five of her family members were injured in a road accident at Gazirbeel in Sadar upazila in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Esha, daughter of Ataur Rahman.

Highway police sources said Ataur Rahman, an assistant director of the Bogra office of the Department of Environment along with his wife and two daughters was going to Jhenidah from Bogra in a private car.

When they reached Gazirbeel, a truck coming from the opposite direction knocked down the private car, leaving its six riders injured.

The injured were first taken to Natore Sadar Hospital and later to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where Esha succumbed to her injuries.

In Rajshahi, two teenage boys were killed in a motorcycle accident on Durgaspur-Katakhali road in Durgapur upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as Kawser Hossian, 17, son of Hossian Ali, and Mukter Hossian, 17, son of Helal Ali of Saybarh village in the upazila.

Quoting locals, sub-inspector Mohidul Islam of Durgapur Police Station said the duo, riding a motorbike, was heading towards Durgapur from Katakhali area.

When the bike reached Gourihar area, it hit a roadside tree around 7:30pm, leaving one dead on the spot and another injured, he added.

Initially, the injured was taken to Upazila Health Complex and later, he died on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
