At least 30 houses were gutted by a fire which broke out at Kachalong Bazar in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati early on Friday.

Local people said the fire broke out at a house in the dead of night and soon engulfed the adjoining 29 other houses, reported the United News of Bangladesh.

Upon there being no fire station in the upazila, local people themselves extinguished the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.

The affected house residents are living under the open sky after the incident.

The fire burnt valuables worth Tk50 lakh, said the affected house owners.
