Gazipur: Two people were killed and five others injured as Khulna-bound 'Chitra Express' hit a covered van at a level crossing at Salna on Dhaka-Rajshahi route in the city on Tuesday night.

Quoting witnesses, sources at the Railway Police said the accident took place when the covered van of 'TM Fashion' was crossing the rail track around 9:30 pm, leaving the two passengers of van dead on the spot and five others injured.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.

Following the accident, train services of Dhaka with Rajshahi remained suspended for around two hours till 11:30 pm.

The injured were taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital while two of them were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
