Gazipur: At least 13 shops were gutted by a fire that broke out at a market in Konabari area of Gazipur early on Wednesday.

Fire service officials said the fire originated from an electric short circuit inside a shop at New Market in the area and soon engulfed 12 other adjacent shops at about 3:45am.

Eight firefighting units from Gazipur, Kaliakoir, Tongi, Joydebpur and Savar EPZ went to the spot and doused the flame after one and a half hours with the help of locals.

The extent of loss caused by the fire is yet to be estimated.
