2 dead as truck falls into Bagerhat ditch
Bagerhat: Two labourers were killed and eight others injured when a truck carrying them plunged into a ditch by Rayenda-Tafalbari road at Lakurtala in Sharankhola upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Tuhin Mir, 30, son of Abdul Mannan Mir of Chalrayenda village, and Palash Haldar, 38, son of Pulin Haldar of Tafalbari village of the same upazila.
Locals said the truck with 15 labourers, working for Chinese construction firm PHWE in the Sharankhola embankment project, fell into the ditch around 11am after its driver lost control over the steering while taking a turn near Lakurtala Bridge, leaving 10 people injured.
Two of the injured died on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital, said officer-in-charge of Sharankhola Police Station Md Kabirul Islam.
