3 of a family killed in Munshiganj road crash

Munshiganj: Three members of a family were killed and two other people injured as a bus collided with a microbus on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway in Sreenagar on Sunday.

The deceased were Azhar Hossain Mridha, 65, a businessman, his wife Jahanara Begum, 50, and his sister Maksuda Begum, 60, of Bansamanta village in Louhajang upazila of the district while the injured persons were named as housemaid Mariam, 40, and microbus driver Korban, 40.

Munshiganj assistant police super M Shamsuzzaman said the Mawa-bound bus of ‘Sawdhin Paribahan’ from Dhaka collided with the microbus at Kewutkhali at about 12:00pm, leaving Azhar dead on the spot and four other microbus passengers injured.

The injured were taken to Shologhar Health Complex where doctors declared Jahanara and Maksuda dead.

Two other injured- Mariam and Korban- were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition.

The accident took place when Azad along with family members was going to his Dhaka residence from his village home.

A case was filed with the Sreenagar police in this connection.
