2 bodies found four days after Chandpur trawler capsize

Chandpur: The bodies of two children, who had gone missing following a trawler capsize in the Meghna River on Tuesday, were recovered from the river in Haimchar upazila on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Fahim, 2, son of Jamal Uddin of Charbhoirabi in the upazila, and Manik, 4, son of Mostafa Mridha of Kuchchapara village in Raipur upazila of Laxmipur district.

Haimchar upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Sarwar Kamal said being informed by locals, a team of police recovered the body of Fahim from the Meghna River, eight kilometer off the accident spot, around 10pm while a rescue team recovered the body of Manik from near the spot around 3:30pm.

The upazila administration handed over the two bodies to their respective families with Tk 10,000 each for burial.

On January 26, 10 people, including six children, went missing as a trawler packed with over 60 passengers capsized in the Meghna River in Haimchar upazila after being hit by a goods-laden vessel amid dense fog.

The trawler-MV Robin-1 -- sank in the middle of the river around 9:30am on its way to Paschim Eshan ghat from Telimor ghat.

Most of the passengers swam ashore or were rescued by local people after the accident.
